Dairybud T-Shirt Design

One of my favorite things in the world is getting to exercise my creativity. (That’s part of why I started this business.) Anna messaged me about designing some t-shirts for her local Cloverbud dairy group, called Dairybuds! She wanted a colorful, breed-neutral design that they could use year after year. This design really took me out of my comfort zone, and I definitely love the result.

Designing shirts can be challenging. When I’m thinking of the design, I have to consider the color of the shirt itself, and how the fabric will take the color. (Caveat: I am not a shirt printer, so in no way is this explanation technical!) Graphics with bold designs and colors have to have a white base underneath the color to make it stand out, and doing so makes for a thicker layer of ink that is sort of adhered onto the fabric. Some types of fabric don’t take that white ink layer well, so we have to opt for a different style of printing, where the ink is direct-dyed into the garment. The resulting print is slightly more faded without that white ink, but since the image is part of the shirt and not printed on top, the fabric can move and fold naturally without the bulk of ink.

I’m hoping to do a few more club shirt designs this year. Freshen up your 4-H club apparel or get something made for your farm! For orders of 10 shirts or more, the shirt design is only $50! Extra fee for logo design. Send me an email and let’s get to work!
